Letter To The Editor - July 24, 2021

Dear Sir,

When the Covid-19 pandemic started in March 2020, few of us could have imagined how long it would last —maybe two to three months — and here we are 17 months later still trying to see light at the end of the tunnel.

Many folks found themselves far from home and didn’t quite know how or when they could return.

Some people who needed to travel during the pandemic had headaches with tickets bought via an online platform. Those who had used a travel agency, and had a face-to-face connection with someone who helped them plan their travel arrangements, had an expert at their service who could let them know the status of their flights — cancellations, date changes, refunds, etcetera.

Those who had bought their tickets online didn’t have the ability to connect with a person who would explain their situation to them. They spent many hours on hold to airline call centers and many times when they got a connection, were given erroneous information or different information – that is, if their call wasn’t cut off.

Today, we don’t just quickly book a vacation or business flight to somewhere without checking on the destination’s Covid restrictions, and needing that information updated as it changes.

A travel agent can be your interlocutor and keep you up to date, as well as answer your questions, confirm your doubts and even help you escape a destination if the situation changes suddenly.
