Letter To The Editor - October 09, 2021

Dear Sir,

Branch 182 of The Royal Canadian Legion, Chapala is no more!

The Legion Dominion Command has succeeded in cancelling the charters of several hundred branches over the past year or so, resulting in the loss of more than 100,000 members – with, as yet, no explanation given.

In the interest of preserving the camaraderie and service reputation of our veterans, the former Branch 182 in Chapala has reinvented itself and bounced back bigger and stronger than ever.

We are now totally independent and will be known as the Canadian Veterans Support Association. We are the same dedicated people working hard to provide the same support and services to veterans and their families as in the past, and to the best of our abilities.

We still meet on Fridays, noon, at Jonhy’s Restaurant in Chapala and welcome any and all who wish to join us there, or at our next event, which will be our Thanksgiving Dinner.  Come celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving with your friends and neighbors at Sunrise Restaurant in San Antonio on Monday, October 11, 3-6 p.m. for a complete turkey dinner with all the trimmings including pumpkin pie! (Vegetarian option provided by request.) Tickets are 350 pesos each and available at Jonhy’s on Fridays (at noon), It’s Kinda Bazaar, O’Rourke’s or by calling 331-758-0676.
