Low-cost carrier Volaris will launch four new nonstop international routes from Guadalajara International Airport (GDL) in December.
The highlight of the expansion is the launch of the first-ever service between Guadalajara and Washington Dulles International Airport. The new overnight route will begin service on December 1, with flights operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from Guadalajara, returning from Washington Dulles on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, starting December 2. Flights will depart Guadalajara at 11:47 p.m. and arrive in Washington at 5 a.m., with a duration of four hours and 13 minutes.
The three other new routes from Guadalajara include:
• Guadalajara–Atlanta: Launching December 2 with four weekly flights (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday). Atlanta becomes Volaris’ 25th U.S. destination.
• Guadalajara–Medellín: Also starting December 2 with three weekly flights (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).
• Guadalajara–Guatemala City: Beginning December 4 with two weekly flights (Monday and Friday).
Tickets for all four routes are already available through Volaris’ website and other sales channels. According to a fare search conducted on Volaris’ website, a one-way fare on certain dates for the Guadalajara–Washington route could be found for a total of US$228 (including 15kg documented luggage and taxes; US$253 with 25kg).
Volaris has overtaken Aeromexico as Mexico’s largest airline by passenger volume and domestic market share, although the national flagship carrier operates a larger fleet size and serves more long-haul international destinations.
“Guadalajara is one of the most important operating centers in our network,” said Holger Blankenstein, Volaris’ executive vice president in a press release. “With these new connections, the Jalisco capital is consolidating its position as a strategic hub for international travel.”
The announcement comes as Guadalajara International Airport continues to break passenger records. According to airport operators Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), through July 2026, the facility has handled 11 million passengers, a four-percent increase compared to the same period in 2025, and currently maintains 65 active routes.
