Charros to play in an empty stadium

The Charros de Jalisco are gearing up for the start of the 2020/21 Mexican Pacific League (LMP) season, kicking off Thursday, October 15, with an on-the-road series against the Sultanes de Monterrey.

Unfortunately, the stands at the Charros Stadium in Zapopan will be vacant when the team plays its first home series of the season (October 20-22, versus the Tomateros de Culiacan), but the players shouldn’t need any extra motivation to shine, club directors say.  After falling short last year, the Charros will be eager to regain the LMP crown they last won two years ago.

Returning for yet another season is 38-year-old first baseman Manny Rodriguez, the Charros’ legend and “superstar,” who has twice won the league’s MVP award.

New recruits include pitchers Colby Blueberg from the United States and Cuban Elian Leyva, both from the U.S. minor leagues.

After traveling to Sinaloa to take on the Cañeros de Los Mochis (October 23-25), the Charros are back home for a series against the Águilas de Mexicali (October 30 & 31, November 1).
