‘Canelo’ returns to the ring in Miami, Florida

In what on paper looks like a huge mismatch, Guadalajara boxing superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez defends his WBA and WBC super middleweight championships against Avni Yildirim of Turkey, Saturday, February 27, in Miami, Florida.

Unofficially acclaimed as the “best active boxer in the world,” 30-year-old Alvarez returns to the ring just two months after he defeated British boxer Callum Smith by unanimous decision in Dallas, Texas.

Yildirim, 29, hasn’t fought in two years and is the WBC mandatory challenger. He has promised to “make my country proud,” warning Alvarez that he should be “ready to see a war.”

Canelo has a record of 54 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws, and 36 KOs, while Yildirim has a record of 21 wins, 2 losses, and 12 KOs.
