Woeful season for Mariachis but games are still loads of fun

Unfortunately, the Mariachis de Guadalajara’s season in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) is going from bad to worse, with consecutive series defeats last week.

The team currently lies in seventh place in the Northern Division, 14.5 games back of leaders, Tecolotes de Dos Laredos. This weekend’s break for the all-star game in Monclova will surely come as a welcome relief to the Mariachis’ players.

The local team, however, will be hoping the four-day break will give them a much-needed energy recharge, as they bounce back with two home series, Tuesday to Thursday, June 21-23, against the Guerreros de Oaxaca, and Friday to Sunday, June 24-26, against the Generales de Durango. The Guerreros make a quick return to Guadalajara to face the Mariachis in another three-game series, Friday, July 1, to Sunday, July 3. (Games start weekdays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.)

Home games are played at the Estadio Panamericano in Zapopan (Calle Sta. Lucía 373, just off the northern Periferico, two blocks from the Auditorio Telmex, parking available).  Tickets are available online at boletosmovil.com and the stadium box office.

Despite the Mariachis’ poor form, home games are always plenty of fun, and a pleasant way for expat fans to watch pro players from different nations show off their skills.
