Tapatio boxing superstar Saul “Canelo” Álvarez has confirmed that the next time he steps into the ring it will be in Guadalajara—the quadruple world champion’s first fight on home soil in 12 years.
Now 31, Canelo Alvarez says it’s time to fight in front of the people who have “always supported him.”
In a video posted on social media, Álvarez said: “I am ready to return home and defend my titles in the place where I was born and where my story began, with the people who have always supported me.”
The plan is for the fight to be held in May (probably Saturday, May 6), at either Guadalajara’s Akron or Jalisco stadiums.
Alfaro said the state government will not have any part in organizing or promoting the fight. However, he promised his government will subsidize tickets for fans with limited economic resources.
