Mariachis optimistic for new season after disastrous 2022

The Mariachis de Guadalajara begin their third season in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) with a three-game home series against the Saraperos de Saltillo, Friday, April 21 through Sunday, April 23.

pg11aLike their Mexican Pacific League counterparts, the Charros de Jalisco, all the Mariachis’ home games are held at the Estadio Panamericano in Zapopan, located on the northern periferico (city beltway) of the Guadalajara metropolitan area.

Mariachis’ President Rafael Tejeda says he expects the 2023 roster to give fans plenty to cheer about this season, after a disappointing second term for the franchise last year, when the team had the worst record in the league.

The LMB season got underway April 20 when the 2022 champions, the Leones de Yucatán, visited the Bravos de León.

Each team plays 90 games during the regular season, and the playoffs begin August 8.  The final series, known as the Serie del Rey, is September 8-16. The All-Star Game weekend will be held in Villahermosa, Tabasco from June 16 to 18.

The Mariachis follow up this weekend’s openers with another three-game home series against the Tecolotes de Los Dos Laredos, Tuesday, April 25 to Thursday, April 27.

The team then goes on the road, before returning to Guadalajara for two home series: May 5-7 (Friday to Sunday) and May 9-11 (Tuesday to Thursday).

Weekday games start at 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.

Tickets for Mariachi de Guadalajara home games are advertised as available for pre-purchase at boletomovil.com, although the link was not activated at this newspaper’s press time. Tickets can be pre-purchased at the stadium box office, or on game day.
