US teen wins WTA Guadalajara Open

Unseeded 17-year-old American Iva Jovic made a stunning breakthrough at the WTA 500 Guadalajara Open Akron, claiming her first tour-level title with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Colombia’s Emiliana Arango on Sunday, September 14.

pg8bRanked No. 73 in the world entering the tournament, Jovic shot up to No. 36 in the rankings the following day, marking a career-high. With the win, she also became the youngest American to capture a WTA 500 singles title since Coco Gauff, and surpassed US$1 million in career earnings.
