Home run for Chapala: A day at the ballpark for the ages

More than 750 Chapalenses enjoyed an amazing sporting adventure on Sunday, June 14, welcomed as special guests at the baseball game between Charros de Jalisco and the Diablos Rojos from Mexico City. 

pg16aA half dozen full-size buses lined up at the Soriana Supermarket parking lot at 2:30 p.m. to board the scores of adults and children who had signed up at City Hall for free rides and free admission to the Estadio Panamericano in Zapopan. All of them were gifted souvenir T-shirts in the royal blue colors of the Charros and the current municipal government.

The two-hour bus ride was an adventure in itself as the skies opened on the outskirts of Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos, raising concerns that the game might be called off. Fortunately, the rainfall trickled down to a sprinkle and stopped altogether before the game started.
