San Antonio museum sets new visiting hours

The Museo Comunitario de San Antonio Tlayacapan is an ideal spot to grasp a sense of local history.

And as of  Tuesday, May 3, the one-room museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by pre-arranged appointment.

pg11The new operating schedule set up by the town’s non-profit historical society Acalli A.C. follows the formation of a women’s auxiliary committee whose members serve as volunteer docents. Visitors will now find fluent English-speakers Lois Cugini and Mary d’Aprix on duty every Tuesday and Thursday respectively.

Others named to the committee are Eva Litzo, Margarita Zepeda, Evelia Lara, Maria Esthela Villaseñor and Hortensia Romo. All are prominent San Antonio residents distinguished for community service as activists on diverse social and cultural matters.

Chairwoman Cugini is well known for her longstanding support of  philanthropic causes and organizations, the founding of San Antonio’s now defunct children’s library, and as the former owner of an eponymous Ajijic fashion and crafts boutique.
