Students at the Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG) made their stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict clear by warmly welcoming Nadya Rashid, the newly appointed Palestinian ambassador to Mexico, during her keynote speech at the 12th Congress of the academic institution’s student union, the Federación Estudiantil Universitaria (FEU).
The conference, titled “Free Palestine, the Palestinian Question, and the Power of Student Solidarity,” drew over 2,000 students and faculty members.
FEU President Zoe García set the tone with a powerful introduction: “The liberation of peoples can only be achieved through solidarity and community. We at the FEU emphasize that our generation will not be complicit in genocide; university students will not remain indifferent. Long live a free Palestine.”
In her presentation, Rashid traced the roots of the conflict back over a century: “The Zionist massacre started neither in 2023 nor in 1948, but in 1917 with the Balfour Declaration, when our land was illegally declared Israeli territory,” she explained to the students, using a slideshow to illustrate her points.
She stressed the importance of global student activism in supporting Palestinian resistance, praising their commitment to human rights and peace. “It’s crucial to remember that Palestinians are not merely victims—we are a people resisting the inhumane conditions imposed by the State of Israel,” she said.
