To strengthen security ahead of the 2026 World Cup, the municipality of Zapopan has added nine highly trained police dogs to its force, a donation from the U.S. government.
The dogs, which will specialize in detecting drugs, weapons and explosives, were formally received at the Zapopan Police Station on December 17.
Zapopan Mayor Juan José Frangie said the donation is part of a strategic effort to elevate the municipality’s security, noting that six more dogs and two equipped vehicles are expected next year. He emphasized that this reinforcement is critical as Zapopan prepares to host thousands of international visitors.
