Despite its prime location and tranquil walkways, the park has suffered in recent years from a dearth of visitors. Home to the city’s only butterfly sanctuary (mariposium), the park houses an aviary, an orchid house, a mini-zoo for small animals and a recently refurbished acoustic shell for music performances, with space for several thousands of spectators (standing or seated on the ground).
Kicking off the program in the park last weekend, surviving members of the famous Chivas soccer team of the 1960s, known as the “Campeonísimo,” handed out signed soccer shirts to youngsters. This was followed by a gastronomic festival organized by the state Environment Agency and students from a private university.Visitors to the Agua Azul on Saturday, November 2 are asked to bring a photo of a deceased loved one or a person they admire to place on the giant altar.
