The Jalisco town of Cocula, which for years has claimed to be the birthplace of mariachi music, is preparing to host the first mariachi festival exclusively for female bands: the Festival Nacional e Internacional de la Mujer Mariachi.
Approximately a dozen groups will perform during two evenings of music on a stage set up in the town’s main plaza (Adrián Puga) on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28. The concerts will start at 7 p.m. and there is no charge.
