Female mariachis to be showcased at Cocula festival

The Jalisco town of Cocula, which for years has claimed to be the birthplace of mariachi music, is preparing to host the first mariachi festival exclusively for female bands: the Festival Nacional e Internacional de la Mujer Mariachi.

Approximately a dozen groups will perform during two evenings of music on a stage set up in the town’s main plaza (Adrián Puga) on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28.  The concerts will start at 7 p.m. and there is no charge.

See Festival Nacional e Internacional de la Mujer Mariachi on Facebook for further details.
