The U.S. consulate general in Guadalajara issued a pre-emptive warning of possible retaliation and public disturbance in the metropolitan area following the February 20 extradition of Ruben Oseguera-Gonzalez, alias “El Menchito,” who is the son of Nemesio “Mencho” Oseguera-Cervantes, the alleged leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
The consulate noted that previous high-profile arrests of senior CJNG operatives have resulted in “retaliatory actions including an increase in anti-government rhetoric (banners and internet threats) and blockades inside [Guadalajara] and on interstate highways. On some occasions, these criminals have seized private vehicles and set them on fire.
