US consul general announces her exit

In a video message commemorating U.S. Independence Day, Robin Matthewman, the U.S. Consul General in Guadalajara, announced that she will be leaving her post at the end of July and returning to the United States.

pg1cMatthewman has occupied her role for the past two years.

Speaking two days prior to July 4, Matthewman noted that the U.S. Declaration of Independence “emphasizes the equality and dignity of each person.

“Our two countries were founded  with the hope of creating a better world,” she said.  “In my time here I feel very inspired to see all the efforts to establish a more prosperous, safe and just society. I know that sometimes these objectives seem very difficult but I also know that each day, with determination and work, we can advance toward a better future.”

Matthewman said the “extraordinary times” the world is currently experiencing require “leadership, flexibility, dedication and generosity.”

The consul general also paid special tribute to the “essential workers who have fought to keep us safe and sound” during the pandemic.

In addition, she highlighted those in the private sector and civil society who have “shown so much generosity to mitigate the effects of the crisis for the most vulnerable.”

Matthewman thanked the consulate staff who in previous years worked so hard to make  its traditional July Fourth celebration  so successful. The event has been canceled this year due to the health emergency.
