2nd airport terminal delayed for two years

The Covid-19 pandemic has meant the completion date for the revamp of the Guadalajara International Airport has been put back two years until 2026, Martín Zazueta of the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), the facility’s operators, announced last week.

pg10Work on the airport’s second runway has already started, with a mooted finish date of 2023. However, the construction of the 125,000-square-meter second terminal won’t begin until 2024, Zazueta said.

The first half of a new circular parking lot – with 10,000 extra spaces – will be completed by 2023, as will an 180-room hotel operated by the Hilton chain, offices, restaurants and a shopping center. Renovations to the current terminal, which include new façade, plus a covered lane for passenger drop off and collection, will continue as planned.

Once finished, the Guadalajara airport will be the first in Mexico to have net zero carbon emissions thanks to its use of solar power.
