Despite registering a loss of around 26 million pesos, Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) President Raul Padilla expressed his satisfaction with this year’s virtual event, which he boasted reached a worldwide audience of 21 million in 84 countries.
Padilla said there were 5.6 million “hits” for the multiple online events and book presentations organized in the nine-day event, which ran from November 28 to December 6.
Speculating that the 2021 edition of the FIL will return to its original home at the Expo Guadalajara as an in-person event, Padilla said the digital experience has been so successful that next year’s “hybrid” version will include online streaming to reach “an even wider global audience.”
Next year’s guest of honor will be Peru, Padilla also announced.
