Local investors in Guadalajara’s hotel sector seem confident that the economic disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic will be short-lived.
Demonstrating this optimism, a new Staybridge Suites complex opened its doors last week on Avenida Mexico, the first of several branded hotel ventures that the British-based InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) hopes to open in the metropolitan area in the next few years.
Staybridge Suites Novena, which encompasses 119 rooms and suites on five floors, is located one block from the glorieta where Juan Palomar y Arias, Yaquia and Golfo de Cortes converge – a stone’s throw from the Twin Lions Casino and Plaza Mexico. According to the hotel’s Mexican investment group, some 200 million pesos has been plowed into the project, that is expected to create around 140 direct jobs.
