There’s absolutely nothing fancy about a torta ahogada: a sliced birote (bread roll) stuffed with chunks of shredded pork, topped with raw onion, and submerged in spicy salsa. Basic fare, really.
But apart from being a renowned hangover cure, the torta ahogada is one of Jalisco’s most iconic dishes, even though it won’t rank in the upper echelons of this nation’s culinary delicacies.
Scheduled Saturday, November 27, at the AutoCinema LIVE located at Trasloma on Guadalajara’s Avenida Lopez Mateos (at Cubilete), the first Fiesta de la Torta Ahogada Drive Thru celebrates this popular local dish, which translates precisely as a “drowned” bread roll.
