Abducted marines released
Two Mexican marines kidnapped after the wife of an alleged drug kingpin was arrested in Guadalajara were released in a Puerto Vallarta neighborhood last weekend.
The marines, a man and a woman, had their hands tied behind their backs and showed signs of torture, reports said. In total, the marines spent 96 hours in captivity. Authorities say their abduction was in response to the apprehension of Rosalinda Gonzalez Valencia, wife of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes (“El Mencho”), the “most wanted” boss of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
Santas are comingto town
Visitors to downtown Guadalajara can expect to see 11 Santa Clauses ensconced in various grottoes in December. The municipal government is allowing the avuncular Christmas characters to set up booths where can they charge for photos, with a maximum of five persons in each photo. City Hall says hugs are not permitted, and the Santas must wear gloves at all times, use gel and maintain safe distancing, although we’re not sure how the 1.5-meter separation rule will work for a photo!
Walmart to sell gas
Walmart de México has signed an alliance with the company Gazpro for the installation of gas stations in the parking lots of its stores around the country. “The new service stations will be designed, developed and operated by Gazpro, and will be supplied with Pemex gasoline,” Walmart said in a statement. The stations will be located in selected branches of Bodega Aurrerá, Mi Bodega Aurrerá, Sam’s Club, Walmart Express and Walmart Supercenter.
Astros come up short
The Astros de Jalisco failed in their bid to be crowned champions of the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP), going down 0-4 to Fuerza Regia of Monterrey, in the best-of-seven games final. The Guadalajara-based Astros won the LNBP Western Division title in only their third season competing in Mexico’s premier basketball league. Said Astros coach Sergio Valdeolmillos: “We didn’t deserve to lose in this way, but I have to recognize what this great team has achieved.” This is the second year in a row that Fuerza Regia have won the LNBP title.
