As part of the state government’s ongoing Red Jalisco (Jalisco Network) project, 42 free wi-fi spots have been installed in the historic center of Guadalajara, many of them along the two-kilometer stretch of the Paseo Alcalde pedestrian precinct.
This recently opened precinct runs from the Normal Glorieta as far as the Cathedral and the Plaza de Armas.
Locations that boast free wi-fi include the Plaza Liberación, Plaza de Armas, Rotonda de los Jaliscienses Ilustres, Jardín de San Francisco, Jardín del Santuario, Jardín de la Reforma, as well as all the way through the spacious Plaza Tapatia to the courtyard facing the Cabañas Cultural Institute.
Mayor Pablo Lemus Navarro boasted that Guadalajara is now the “best connected city in Mexico,” with 2,965 free wi-fi access points in the municipality, with capacities between 100 and 500 megabits per second.
At this week’s presentation of the initiative, Jalisco Government Chief of Staff Hugo Luna Vázquez noted that the Red Jalisco includes more than 12,000 free wi-fi connection points in the state, a figure that will rise to 20,000 by the end of the current administration.
