Folk dance troupe to tour US cities

In another indication that the Covid pandemic is fading into the background, the Ballet Folclórico de Guadalajara has begun a tour of the United States, titled “México en el Corazón.”

The dancers will be accompanied by the Mariachi Estrella de México and the Banda Música de Colores. There will be 51 performers in total.

pg5aThe first date of the tour is in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 27.

The tour will be held in two stages, from May 27 to June 13 on the west coast, and from August 23 to September 13 in the Midwest. Venues include Seattle, Fresno, Madera, Downey, Tacoma, Ogden, Albuquerque, Denver, Chicago, Nashville and Houston.

An initiative of the North American Institute for Mexican Advancement (NAIMA), the tour has been on hold for the past two years.

“It is very important to take our culture to other countries, especially the United States, where we have millions and millions of countrymen eager to hear a mariachi band, see folk dancing, listen to Mexican music, to learn about their traditions,” said Guadalajara Mayor Pablo Lemus at the kickoff to the tour held this week in the city’s Plaza Liberation.
