Monkeypox update

Only Mexico City has registered more cases of Monkeypox than Jalisco, the state Health Department (SSJ) reported this week.  Another nine cases of the disease were confirmed Tuesday, August 2, bringing the total in the state to 22. Nearly all have been in either the Guadalajara metropolitan area or Puerto Vallarta, Health Secretary Fernando Petersen said. The official stressed that infected people should not only not be touched, but neither should clothes or other materials that have come into contact with their skin, since they are also contagious agents

Conflicts over pets

The fourth most common conflict adjudicated by Guadalajara’s Instituto de Justicia Alternativa (Restorative Justice Institute) involves complaints about pets, mostly canines.   According to data from the National Statistics Institute (Inegi), the bulk of the disputes are filed by neighbors exasperated at barking and aggressive dogs, as well as dogs and cats defecating on their property.  Restorative justice is an approach to justice where one of the responses to a crime or complaint is to organize a meeting between the victim and the offender, in order to reach a satisfactory outcome.
