Beware Good Samaritans offering refreshing drinks

State police have arrested a woman suspected of drugging elderly travelers at the Guadalajara bus station and stealing their belongings.

The Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office said the 44-year-old woman, along with several accomplices, would pretend to be a Good Samaritan, and offer juice or cookies to weary “senior” travelers. The food and drinks contained benzodiazepines, medication that causes drowsiness.

The FGE said the arrest stems from a complaint filed in October of last year by a man saying he was a victim of the woman. He said he fell asleep after accepting a drink from the con artist—named by authorities as Graciela M. He woke up to find all his cash and belongings gone.

The police report said that during their investigations, FGE agents identified a silver Mitsubishi Endeavor that was used by the “gang.” During a search of this vehicle, which was seized during this week’s operation at the bus station, police detected two bottles of Clonazepam, presumably used to drug victims, the report stated.

Three other accomplices who worked with Graciela M. have been identified and arrest warrants issued for them, the FGE said.
