Guadalajara Mayor Verónica Delgadillo has warned that residents and business owners who fail to sweep their sidewalks and the adjacent roadway lanes will face sanctions.
Speaking after a tour of the Analco neighborhood as part of the Community Tuesday program, Delgadillo announced that fines for noncompliance with public cleaning regulations will be enforced within three months.
Before making the announcement, she engaged in a dialogue with local residents. “Do you like it when your neighbors throw garbage in public spaces?” she asked. Reportedly, a group answered “no” in unison.
During the next three months, a public awareness campaign will be launched to encourage residents to keep the sidewalks and streets in front of their properties clean. Municipal employees will go door-to-door to inform citizens of their responsibilities and the penalties for noncompliance.
Regulations & enforcement
According to Article 14 of Guadalajara’s municipal ordinances:
• Residents must sweep the sidewalk in front of their homes or businesses daily.
• In the case of vacant properties, the responsibility falls on the property owner.
• For apartment buildings or multi-family homes, a designated person must be assigned to handle street cleaning.
Failure to comply will result in fines imposed on the property owner or occupant, as specified in municipal regulations.
