U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said he ordered the revocation of the U.S. visa of a Morena Party operative and employee of the Jalisco State Congress following what he called a crude and inflammatory social media post.
Melissa Cornejo Sandoval posted an image on her X account showing a person waving a Mexican flag in front of a burned-out vehicle tagged with the phrase “F*** ICE,” apparently during recent protests against ICE raids in Los Angeles.
The post included a caption by Cornejo with a critical message about the revocation of visas, followed by: “Long live la raza, and shove my visa up your a***.”
In response, Landau condemned the post as “vulgar,” adding that he had instructed for Cornejo’s visa to be canceled, only to be informed that she did not hold one.
“How easy it is to speak of your contempt for ‘my visa’ on social media when you don’t have one,” Landau wrote. “Those who glorify violence and defiance of legitimate authorities and public order are in no way welcome in our country.”
According to local reports, Cornejo Sandoval is employed by the Social Communication and Citizen Service Coordination office of the Jalisco Congress, earning a gross biweekly salary of 24,000 pesos.
