Measles claims first victim of 2026 in Jalisco

A four-year-old child, a resident of Guadalajara, became the third measles victim in Jalisco since the outbreak began last year — and the first of 2026.  The federal Health Ministry confirmed three new deaths this week, bringing the national toll to 31.

Health Ministry data shows 10,085 confirmed cases of measles (as of February 17) nationwide since last year.

The hardest-hit age group is children between one and four years old, with 1,434 cases, followed by those aged five to nine.

However, the highest incidence rate is in infants under one year old, with 54.12 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
