The water crisis in Guadalajara’s metropolitan area is causing serious health issues, with numerous residents reporting skin problems after using tap water from the local utility, SIAPA. Reports suggest the water is not only discolored and foul-smelling but also causes physical reactions like irritation, rashes and severe dermatitis.
Residents in Tlaquepaque are among the most vocal, with reports of specific health problems directly linked to the water.
In the Loma Bonita Ejidal neighborhood, a 20-year-old man was diagnosed with severe dermatitis, a reaction his family and doctors attribute to the water. The symptoms, including rashes and itching, were initially mistaken for measles. Similarly, a family in Villa Fontana says they have experienced persistent skin problems, such as atopic dermatitis, since October 2025, along with throat and eye irritation.
