Just weeks before the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off, a 6.5-meter bronze statue of Brazilian soccer legend Pelé has been installed outside the iconic Estadio Jalisco — the very stadium where he led Brazil to glory in the 1970 World Cup.
The 4.5-ton monument, titled “La Canarinha” — the Portuguese nickname for the Brazilian national team — was placed over last weekend on a three-meter base facing the stadium’s entrance.
Due to complexities surrounding the late star’s image rights, the statue cannot officially bear Pelé’s name and is instead referred to by its artistic title.
