Spanish King Felipe VI to attend World Cup match in Guadalajara

pg4The monarch has accepted invitations extended by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, according to Spanish royal sources.

The match against Uruguay, which marks Spain’s first-round finale in group play, will be held at the city’s Estadio Akron. Spain previously faces Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia in the group stage.

The visit comes amid a warming of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Spain. Sheinbaum had extended similar World Cup invitations to all nations with which Mexico maintains diplomatic ties.
