The operation, carried out by the National Guard (Guardia Nacional), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (PROFEPA), targeted vendors trafficking protected species at the tianguis located in eastern Guadalajara.
Species confiscated included birds, snakes, foxes, eagle chicks, owls, scorpions and various arthropods — some of which are classified under federal protection laws.
All the seized animals were placed under the care of the Wildlife Rescue Unit of Tlajomulco, which collaborates with federal authorities in the rehabilitation and shelter of confiscated specimens.
According to initial reports, many of the animals showed signs of neglect. Several were found to be dehydrated, underweight and in poor physical condition.
The animals are now receiving medical evaluations, clinical examinations and treatment to stabilize their health.
