Recurring flooding at Guadalajara’s landmark yellow Arcos del Milenio monument is being caused by a build up of garbage blocking rain drains, Civil Protection officials say.

Hugo Castellanos, the well-known owner of a modeling agency in Guadalajara and the director of the Miss World beauty pageant in Mexico, was shot and killed in Culiacan, Sinaloa last weekend. 

Activists campaigning to ban horse-drawn carriages in the Guadalajara city center have suggested replacing the equines with modern electric vehicles, while keeping the old-style carriages.
