Canadians remember their war dead

Tradition was not forgotten as the Canadian delegation participated in a moving Remembrance Day commemoration last weekend at the Parapan Games Athletes Village.

Guest of honor at the service was Leo Henneberry, a Canadian Army veteran of the Vietnam and Korean wars and a former diplomat who now spends his winters in the Lake Chapala area.

Following the solemn playing of “The Last Post” and two minutes of silence, archer Lyne Tremblay and wheelchair basketball player David Durepos read the poem “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon in French and English respectively.

“In Flanders Fields” by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae was read in English by Consul Yvonne Chin and in French by Vice Consul Patrick Courcelles.

After some pertinent remarks  by  Wayne Robson, charge d’afffaires at the Canadian embassy, the gathering of athletes, coaches, support staff and volunteers sang “O Canada.”
