US, Mexico, Canada borders to remain closed

Mexico and Canada’s borders with the United States will remain closed to all nonessential travel until August 21, the three governments have agreed.

As Mexican states and Canadian provinces and territories are starting to reactivate their economies, spikes in some U.S. states are forcing governors to backtrack and re-impose restrictions.  Both borders have been closed to non-essential travel since March.

The decision to maintain the measure comes despite the pleas of some Republican U.S. lawmakers to consider easing the border restrictions for family members and property owners.

The measure does not apply to travelers by air, although anyone flying into Canada from either Mexico or the United States is obliged to self isolate for 14 days.
