Two Mexican rescue teams have flown to Surfside, Florida to assist in the effort to locate survivors after the collapse of an apartment building last week.
The first to arrive were seven Mexicans who are part of Cadena, a Jewish non-profit organization providing aid and support during natural disasters and emergencies around the world. They were accompanied by a Pomsky support dog.
A second group of 11 Mexican volunteers, known as “Topos Azteca,” arrived Tuesday.These rescuers have much experience at searching through collapsed buildings following earthquakes and are considered among the world’s best. They were critical participants in rescue efforts following Mexico City’s devastating earthquakes of 1985 and 2017.
At press time, 16 bodies had been recovered from the Florida disaster scene, but at least 140 people are missing.
