No let up in deportations expected during shutdown

Because most of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s work is deemed “essential,” deportation operations will continue without significant impact during a shutdown, according to the American Immigration Council.

That means that throughout the shutdown, ICE will likely continue the current trends and levels of immigration enforcement, including arrests and raids, expansion of the rapidly growing detention system, and deportations, the non-profit, non-partisan organization said.
