Chapala Cultural Center to host confab on landscape science, art

Chapala’s Centro Cultural González Gallo will be the venue for the IV Congreso Internacional del Paisaje (CCAP), a confab on landscape science and art, set to take place Tuesday, October 7 through Thursday, October 9, with additional activities spanning the entire week.

The aim of the congress is to bring together people from diverse fields of interest to exchange knowledge and points of view on all aspects of landscape in its broadest sense, encompassing physical elements of natural landforms, living land cover, ecology, man-made features and transitory aspects such as lighting and weather.

The full program kicks off on Sunday, October 5, noon, with the inauguration of an art and photography exhibit on the theme Alternative Landscapes, dedicated to the late Mexican civil engineer and artist Miguel Aldana Mijares.

The CCAP proper revolves around a jam-packed agenda of lectures, academic papers, workshops and round-table discussions scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day, with a line-up of expert guest speakers from Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Cuba.

Complementary activities include guided tours to several local sites of interest and a viewing of the Blood Moon full lunar eclipse, to be held Wednesday, October 8, at the Chapala Malecón open air forum, starting at 4 a.m.

The congress is organized under the auspices of the Academia Mexicana de Paisaje (Mexican Landscape Academy), the University of Guadalajara, the Center of Research and Study in Social Anthropology and the Chapala Municipal Government.       DHP
