Two expats found dead in their homes

Two elderly expatriates who lived alone have been found dead in their homes over the past two weeks. Both apparently expired due to natural causes.

The body of Pom Allen Rice was found in his downtown Chapala apartment on Saturday, July 11 after neighbors alerted police to a permeating stench. He was identified by a U.S. passport as a 79-year-old native of Colorado.

The cadaver was located in the bathroom in an advanced state of decomposition, an estimated four days after death occurred. Forensic investigators at the scene saw no signs of violent bodily injury, leading them to the conclusion that Rice succumbed to illness or old age.

Similar circumstances were reported in the death of long-time Chapala Haciendas resident Myron Gordon Mortimer, whose body was discovered at his home early Thursday, July 23 by a domestic employee.  Authorities revealed that his corpse was lying peacefully in bed, apparently about two days after his demise. Again, there was no evidence of foul play.
