The Chapala government welcomed in 2016 with a free New Year’s Eve party at the waterfront Malecón, climaxing with a dazzling fireworks display fired up at the stroke of midnight.
While the glittering pyrotechnics weren’t quite on a par with the high price tag spectacles seen in London, Sydney, Dubai and other world hot spots, the throng of revelers on hand raved about the eight-minute show.
Local Civil Protection officials estimate that more than 2,000 people attended the celebration. Hundreds more viewed the bright lights from other lakeshore vantage points.
