Tragedy strikes at local race

The tragic death of a young Ajijic athlete put a damper on the Chapala leg of the November 13 national race series titled “Moving Mexico for Your Health.”

Pamela Isabel Avila Rivera, 24, collapsed near the finish line as she completed the five-kilometer leg of the competition.

First responders at the scene made attempts to revive her before she was rushed to the Red Cross clinic for emergency attention. A short time later the attending doctor pronounced Avila dead from sudden heart failure attributed to a previously diagnosed health issue.
