Island ceremonial site restored

Members of the Wixárika community from San Andrés Cohamiata in northern Jalisco were in Chapala last week to restore the Xiriki temple that stands at the apex of the Isla de los Alacranes.

The thatch-roofed stone structure that is the focal point of the indigenous group’s Xapawiyemeta (sacred ceremonial site) at Lake Chapala was severely damaged by fire last December.
