Two dead in Saturday shootings in Chapala

Two men were shot dead in separate incidents reported in Chapala on the night of Saturday, March 16.

The first victim was gunned down shortly before 9 p.m. at the corner of Calle Juárez and Niños Heroes, just a block away from the municipality’s police headquarters.

The second fatal shooting happened less than two hours later outside the Lienzo Charro bullring located opposite the Pemex station on Avenida Madero.

The back-to-back homicides occurred just two days after Chapala Mayor Moisés Anaya and Public Security Director Raúl Valenciano Saucedo met at city hall with Brigadeer General Norberto Cortés Rodríguez to discuss arranging military surveillance in the community.

The general indicated that the 758 federal troops sent into Jalisco this month to back up state and municipal police are currently concentrated in the Guadalajara metro area. However, according to Anaya, he did not discard the possibility of dispatching convoys to monitor the lakeshore area once or twice a week.
