LCS sponsors career orientation

Students at Chapala’s Conalep vocational high school explored options for advanced education and future employment during the Career Days program brought to the campus March 28 and 29 under the sponsorship of the Lake Chapala Society (LCS).

pg19bThe project was geared for students enrolled in second, fourth and sixth semester classes who will sooner or later face important decisions about continuing their studies, entering the job market or launching their own businesses.

On Thursday, fourth and sixth semester students started by filling out the Holland Assessment questionnaire designed to help them define careers that are best suited to their personal interests and abilities. Later on they heard presentations by local professionals and entrepreneurs brought in to discuss their experiences in breaking into different fields. The sixth semester class also broke up into small groups to practice job interview skills.

Friday’s schedule for second semester students included completion of the Holland Assessment and talks with a lakeside architect, banker, veterinarian, computer engineer and teacher.

In previous years, LCS introduced program Career Days at Chapala’s Preparatoria Regional. The thrust of the program is to encourage students to stay in school as long as needed to pursue their employment goals and live a fulfilling adulthood.
