Expats & local government build bridges

The restoration of two wooden footbridges along the Ajijic Malecón has been completed through collaborative sponsorship from foreign residents and the Chapala municipal government.

Key players wielding scissors at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, July 18, were (left to right) Allegra Willis, Justine Bertram, Héctor España, Bob Howe, Joyce McNiven and Cathy Sheenan.

Howe, administrator of InsideLakeside.com, launched initial fundraising with 20,000 pesos in excess proceeds collected for the earlier renewal of Malecón benches.  The Garden Guild covered additional expenses amounting to more than 70,000 pesos. Chapala Sunrise Rotary Club also supported the effort. The municipality provided manpower to rebuild the bridges with weather-resistant Rosa Morada planks.
