On Saturday, November 2, and again the next day, state traffic police set up traps on opposite sides of the Chapala-Jocotepec highway near the junction with the Libramiento bypass and at the outskirts of Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos where breathalyzers tests were applied in random spot-checks of passing motorists. rivers caught mildly under the influence were ticketed for fines, while those more highly intoxicated were hauled off to dry out in the slammer, their vehicles towed away for impound.
