April 8 will mark the 100th birthday of Chapala’s former railway station, an architectural gem that has survived a checkered history to stand out as the city’s most imposing landmark since its 2006 reincarnation as the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo.
The maiden run of the Guadalajara-Chapala line was welcomed with exuberant fanfare. With the cultural center temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 100-year milestone will be more subdued. Plans for a virtual celebration are in the works.
