The voice of coronavirus in Chapala

The Chapala government has recorded an English-language message that is now blaring out from the loudspeakers of “sound trucks” roaming the municipality to advise residents to stay off the streets and wear face masks during the Covid-19 contingency.

The voice may not be instantly recognizable but belongs to a well-known member of the community – lawyer Spencer McMullen.

“I don’t have a typical radio voice, but I tried to speak slowly and clearly so people got the message and understood it, said McMullen. “The Mexican trucks that go around the streets are hard to understand. I speak Spanish and often I don’t know what they’re saying.”

McMullen does many translations for Chapala City Hall, so it was logical that the general secretary asked him to record the message after he translated the text into English.
