Chapala enacts animal protection code

After years in the making, the Chapala government is finally enacting its own regulatory code for the protection and treatment of animals, put into effect this week after final approval by the city council.

pg9aDrawn up under the title “Reglamento de Protección y Trato Digno para los Animales en el Municipio de Chapala, Jalisco,” it is a hefty and detailed 52-page document that delves into all aspects concerning the possession and care of domestic and wild creatures.

Title 1 covers definitions of relevant terminology and other generalities. Title II, Chapter I addresses the powers and duties of municipal authorities, most specifically regarding the Department of Ecology and Sustainable Development which bears the brunt of enforcement, oversight and day to day management.
